San Diego, a team that finished as undefeated (14-0) WCC Champions a year ago, improves to 3-1 in WCC play in 2005. USD dominated Game One, hitting .533 in the opening frame to jump out to an early lead. Led by sophomore Briawna Mueller, who paced the Bulldogs with eight kills in 16 attempts, Gonzaga challenged in Game Two but was unable to slow down a Torero team that has now won all six of its home matches this season and 16 straight overall.
All-WCC libero Jackie Bernardin (Bakersfield, CA/Centennial HS) had four aces and 13 digs for San Diego. USD standout Christie Dawson (Apple Valley, CA/Granite Hills HS) led all players with 13 kills. Dawson, Sherburne and Bernardin anchored a USD team that will play at San Diego State Tuesday night before traveling to play No. 14 Santa Clara on Saturday, October 15.
