No. 20 San Diego Sweeps USF 3-0

SAN DIEGO, CA - With the exception of a back and forth third game that San Diego eventually won 39-37, No. 20 USD routinely swept visiting San Francisco in West Coast Conference volleyball action Friday night in the Jenny Craig Pavilion. San Diego (20-5; 9-4 WCC) reaches the 20-win plateau for the 11th time in 13 seasons and improves to 9-1 at home this fall. Four Toreros reached double figures in kills and record-setting senior Lindsey Sherburne handed out 56 assists (18.6 apg).

In just 1 hour and 36 minutes, the host Toreros picked up the conference victory by game scores of (30-19, 30-23 and 39-37). Junior MH Christie Dawson had a team-high 18 kills and totaled four blocks for USD, with sophomore teammate OH Erin Wiskar blocking six and adding 12 kills.

San Diego claims a season sweep over USF, having previously defeating the Dons in four games in San Francisco on October 22nd. Ranked No. 20 nationally by the AVCA and No. 18 by Volleyball Magazine, the Toreros have won five straight.

San Francisco (17-12; 4-9 WCC) was held to a dismal .024 hitting clip in the opening game, but behind a match-best 19 kills from OH Kristin Hasselberg the Dons would rally to lead late in Game Three. Weber State transfer, junior S Jamie Kartchner came off the bench to distribute 28 assists.
