(Los Angeles, CA) - Junior Kate Murray scored 12 points and Loyola Marymount (11-10; 5-3 WCC) connected on seven three-pointers in defeating visiting San Diego 59-41 Thursday night in Los Angeles.
San Diego sophomore's Ashley Voisinet (12) and Sabine Loewe (11) both reached double-figures in scoring, but it was not enough for a Torero team that has lost four straight. San Diego (7-14; 2-6 WCC) went 2-for-20 from three-point range.
The Lions held USD without a field goal for the first 11 minutes of the game, and limited the Toreros to their lowest point total of the season. The Lions went on a 6-0 run to take a 11-2 lead before Loewe's layup at 9:19 gave USD its first field goal.
After trailing 30-16 at the half, San Diego cut the LMU lead to just six points, 36-30, at 15:11 on a three pointer by Lindsay Helvey. That basket was the tail end of a 10-0 USD run in just a two minute span, that included a three pointer by Polly Dong, and two baskets by Loewe and Voisinet.
The Lions did not allow the game to get any closer, as they extended their lead back to 17 points, 51-34 with a 15-4 run of their own. LMU turned up the defensive pressure, extending its lead to 19 points, 58-39 on a jumper by Amanda DeCoud at 1:07.
USD will return to action Saturday afternoon in Malibu, facing Pepperdine at 2pm.
