Final Stats
(Northridge, CA) -- The USD men's soccer team dealt the No. 19 Cal State Northridge Matadors a 1-0 defeat this afternoon. Torero sophomore midfielder Dustin Guerrero (Marian Catholic HS) scored the lone goal of the match at 84:53 off an assist from Eric Pohl. USD goalie Lance Friesz was credited with 5 saves as CSUN took 16 shots on the day. With the win USD improves to 3-0-2 on the season and they will host Alabama A&M this Saturday at Torero Stadium in a 7:00 p.m. match. The 19th ranked Matadors fall to 4-2-1 on the season. CSUN goalie Kevin Guppy tallied 4 saves in the loss.
"We didn't play very well in the first half and I really got on them at halftime," said head coach Seamus McFadden. "We came out and played much better in the 2nd half. Northridge is a very good club and that was a big win for us. Guerrero's goal was an excellent shot and came at a very good time."
The winning goal was set up by Pohl who pased the ball to the left side for Guerrero who used the outside of his left foot to push it past Matador goalie Kevin Guppy. It was Guerrero's first goal of the season.
