SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's tennis team dropped their match to No. 23 Pepperdine Saturday at USD's West Tennis Courts by a score of 5-2. The Toreros, who are currently ranked 63rd in the nation, are now 3-3 on the season while Pepperdine remains undefeated at 8-0.
In doubles action, Pepperdine swept the Toreros at all three spots. The duo of Emma Murphy and Lauren Perl lost 8-6 to Pepperdine's Sylvia Kosakowski and Merve Asimgil. Jenny Brown and Helen Lindstrand took their doubles match all the way to a 7-7 tie, but couldn't hold on as Pepperdine's Bianca Dulgheru and Eva Dickes came away with the tiebreaker for an 8-7 victory. Sophia Vogt and Brittany Reitz also dropped their match at the No. 3 spot by a score of 8-3.
Seniors Emma Murphy and Jenny Brown clinched the sole Torero victories in the singles ladder. Murphy, who currently ranks at No. 100 in the nation, defeated Pepperdine's Bianca Dulgheru 6-4, 6-4. Brown's first set against Natalie Braverman resulted in a 7-6 tiebreaker victory for Brown who went on to clinch the second set by a score of 6-4.
The Toreros will head to Seattle to face Idaho (March 3, 9:00 a.m.) and Washington (March 4, 11:00 a.m.) before returning home to host the annual USD Invitational March 10-12.
