Box Score
(San Diego, CA) - The visiting USF Dons (9-14; 5-3 WCC) jumped all over the host USD Toreros (13-10; 3-5 WCC) out of the gates in building a 56-30 halftime advantage, and never looked back as they came away with a 98-88 win before 2,747 fans at the Jenny Craig Pavilion. Down by as many as 32 points (64-32) in the second half, USD staged a comeback that saw them get within 14 points (83-69) with just under six minutes to go, but the Dons quickly built their cushion back up to 21 with four minutes left. From there it was just too much to overcome as USD falls to 0-3 at home in WCC games. San Diego, which is 3-2 on the road in league play, heads to Moraga for a Monday night matchup against the Saint Mary's Gaels.
Gyno Pomare was USD's leading scorer off the bench with 18 points in 28 minutes of action. He was followed by Ross DeRogatis (17 points, 8 rebounds), Ray Murdock (13 points) and De'Jon Jackson (11 points). USF saw five of their players reach double figures with Antonio Kellogg leading the way with 21 points (he scored 37 when these two teams met back on January 6th in the conference opener). The Dons shot 59.3% for the game, and a more impressive 90.3% from the free throw line (28-31).
The Toreros will try to get back on track against the 5-2 Saint Mary's Gaels on Monday. SMC dealt the Toreros a 85-78 loss in San Diego back on January 22nd.
