SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The 15th-ranked University of San Diego women's volleyball team dropped a 3-1 (25-22, 24-26, 23-25, 18-25) West Coast Conference match to the University of San Francisco Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, the Toreros fall to 12-3 overall, move to 2-1 in the WCC and saw their three-match winning streak come to an end. With the win, the Dons improve to 13-4 overall and 3-0 in the WCC.

Amy Mahinalani DeGroot led the Toreros offense as she recorded 15 kills and recorded nine digs. The second Torero in double digit kills was Ashton Basch, who had 14 kills. Andrea Csaszi led the team with 16 digs and Jessica Nyrop recorded a match-best 42 assists. As a team, USD hit for a .203 clip.

In the first set, the early going was an even battle with each team taking their turn with the lead and neither team having a lead bigger than two. Then with the score knotted at 7-7, the Toreros used a 7-2 run sparked on a Basch kill and capped on a Torey Ellick kill to give the Toreros a 14-9 advantage. USD would go on to build their lead up to as many as seven at 22-15. The Dons then went on a 5-1 run to pull back to within three at 23-20, but San Diego didn't allow the Dons to get any closer as they claimed set one 25-22.

In the second set, San Diego jumped out to an early 5-2 lead to capture the early momentum. USD would maintain the lead and build up a four point lead on several occasions. Then with the score at 20-19 in favor of the Toreros, USD went on a 3-1 run to gain some breathing room at 23-20. San Francisco then closed out the set on a 6-1 run to even the match at 1-1.

In the third set, it was a sea saw battle right from the get-go with each team taking their turn with the lead. Then with the score 17-13 in favor of the Dons, a DeGroot kill off a set from Nyrop ignited a 7-4 San Diego run that was capped on a USF service error to pull USD even with the Dons at 21-21. USF would then close out the set on a 4-2 run to take a 2-1 lead.

In the fourth and final set, the Dons jumped out to a 7-2 lead and never really looked back as they went on to claim the upset win with a 25-18 win.

The Toreros will return to action on Thursday as they travel to play Santa Clara University in an 8 p.m. match that will be aired live on ESPNU.
