Box Score

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - It was an afternoon for celebration as the Torero men's soccer team tamed the Lions of Loyola Marymount 3-0, a win head coach Seamus McFadden will not forget as it is his 300th career victory. He now owns a 300-216-47 overall record at USD.

The victory also is the start of a new two-match winning streak for the Toreros as they remain in control of the West coast Conference at 6-1-0 and 6-6-3 overall. The Lions fall to 4-6-5 overall and 2-4-1 in WCC play.

"It was a very gratifying win for me today," explained McFadden. "I don't think the score reflected the play of both teams. The difference was we were simply able to find the net against a very good Loyola Marymount team."

In a match that was paced by LMU who created opportunities, held possession and took almost as many shots as USD, however it was the Toreros who were able to connect with the net putting shots away.

Senior forward JT Howlan scored the first goal in the 13th minute of the match. Freshman midfield Jorge Rezza crossed a ball on the far side to Howlan who flicked a header over LMU goalkeeper Jack McCormack into the top right corner of the net for the 1-0 lead.

In the 59th minute, JT Howlan sent a shot from the near corner of the penalty box which was deflected by the LMU defense to the corner and nearly out of bounds before being saved by forward Andrew Feld. Feld crossed it back at the net where midfielder Trevor May connected with a rocket header from inside the goalie box to lift USD to a 2-0 lead.

Forward Kyle Ochoa added an insurance goal in the 87th minute for USD. Scrambling in the box surrounded be defenders, Ochoa fought for possession. LMU defense had a number of chances to clear the ball but it landed right back at Ochoa who found himself one-on-one with McCormack and put it past him sealing the 3-0 victory.

LMU dominated the corner kicks 9-1. San Diego posted nine shots to LMU's eight. Goalkeeper Kelin Briones recorded three saves with no goals against in the match, his second straight shutout.

San Diego returns to action when they host Saint Mary's on Sunday, November 1 at 2:00 p.m. at Torero Stadium.
