SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Stephanie Och's goal in the 61st minute of action propelled the University of San Diego women's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Seattle University Sunday afternoon in a non-conference game at USD's Torero Stadium.
With the win, the Toreros improve to 12-5-2 overall and run their winning streak to five. With the loss, the Redhawks fall to 7-11-1 overall.
San Diego got on the scoreboard first, as in the ninth minute of action, Natalie Garcia sent a pass to Ochs, who then slipped the ball to a streaking Christine Mock, who was able to break in between a pair of Seattle defenders to have a one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper. Mock wasted no time in scoring, as once she broke free she launched a rocket shot into the left side of the goal to give USD a 1-0 lead.
The Toreros then doubled their lead at the 60:39 mark, as Dani Russell sent a long lead pass to Ochs, who then broke free behind the Seattle defense and easily scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season to give USD a 2-0 advantage.
The Redhawks spoiled the shutout for the Toreros in the 62nd minute of action, as Kassandra Riozzi fired off one shot, had it blocked, then on the rebound was able to hit it again into the back of the net to put the match at its final of 2-1.
USD outshot the Redhawks 22-2, and held a 13-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Courtney Parsons picked up the win in goal for the Toreros, as she allowed one goal and recorded one save. Madison Goverde was saddled with the loss in goal for Seattle as she allowed two goals and recorded 12 saves.
The Toreros will return to action on Friday as they conclude the regular-season on the road against the No. 2 ranked University of Portland. This match will air on ESPNU live and will be for the West Coast Conference championship.
