SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The 15th ranked University of San Diego women's volleyball team dropped their second straight match to the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos Friday evening at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
With the 25-22, 22-25, 16-25, 15-25 loss, the Toreros fall to 1-2 in the early season, while the Gauchos improve to 3-1.
Ali Troost led the team with 13 kills on 24 attempts for a .500 clip. Following closely behind was teammate Colleen Carlson with 11 kills on the night hitting .474. Kelsi Myers had 38 assists on the night for USD while Kayleen Webster had a team high 14 digs on the night.
In game one, the Toreros came back from a 3-1 deficit to take the lead at 4-3. The Toreros applied pressure and began to pull away midway through the match as Ali Troost served up eight straight points with the help of her teammates. The Toreros won 25-22 to take the first set.
In game two, USD played catch-up through most of the set tying the game at seven all. Chelsey Lowe lifted the Gauchos to a 13-19 lead with eight straight points as the Toreros struggled to gain control losing the second set 22-25.
The Toreros lost sets three and four 16-25 and 15-25 as the Gauchos got the win.
The Toreros are back in action at the Jenny Craig Pavilion on Saturday, Sept. 5 for their final match of the weekend against the Gauchos. First set will be served up at 2:00 p.m.
