In the first half, the Waves jumped all over the Toreros, as they raced out to a 15-0 lead over the first 4:30 of action. An Emily Hatch lay-up ignited a 14-4 Torero run to pull San Diego to within five at 19-14 with 6:33 to go. The Toreros would eventually cut the deficit to four at 22-18 on an Izzy Chilcott jumper with 2:55 to go, but the Waves quickly built up their lead back to double figures at 29-18 with 2:03 to go to regain the momentum. San Diego would cut that lead down to six at 29-23 on a Conners lay-up with 24 seconds left, but the Waves were able to get the final basket of the half as time expired to give them an 8-point cushion heading into the break up 31-23.
In the second half, the Toreros came out hitting on all cylinders, as an Amy Kame 3-pointer jump started a 7-0 San Diego run to pull the Toreros to within three at 33-30 with 16:34 to go. Pepperdine then got going as they put together a 16-4 run to take their biggest lead of the game at 49-34 with 13:32 to go. San Diego answered right back as they went on a 10-2 run to grab back the momentum and cut the deficit to seven at 51-44 with 8:35 to go. But Pepperdine then pushed their lead back to double digits for the remainder of the game, before the Toreros cut it to six on three final free throws by Morgan Woodrow with .3 seconds remaining to put the game at its final of 61-55.
The Toreros will return to action on Thursday as they host the University of San Francisco in a 7 p.m. WCC game inside the friendly confines of the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
