SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego baseball team had 12 players earn Rawlings All-West Coast Conference honors, highlighted by Kris Bryant, Andrew Daniel, Corey LeVier, James Pazos and Paul Sewald taking home first-team honors. Austin Bailey, Bryan Haar, Dillon Haupt, Louie Lechich, AJ Robinson, and Michael Wagner were all named honorable mention. Connor Joe, along with Bailey and Daniel, were named to the All-Freshman team.
Bryant, a 6-5 sophomore third baseman from Las Vegas, Nev., takes home his second consecutive first-team honor after hitting .359 with 74 hits, 16 doubles, two triples, 14 home runs, 57 RBI and slugging at a .660 clip during the 2012 season. In conference action, Bryant hit .326 with 31 hits, six doubles, two triples, seven home runs and 25 RBI. Bryant was named the WCC Player of the Week three ties.
Daniel, a 6-1 freshman short stop from San Diego, exploded onto the scene as a true freshman, hitting .350 with 78 hits, 18 doubles, two triples, four home runs and 45 RBI. In WCC action, Daniel continued to have a hot stick, as he hit .323 with 32 hits, nine doubles, two home runs and 21 RBI.
LeVier, a 6-3 senior utility player from San Dimas, Calif., also takes home his second first-team All-WCC honor. LeVier paced the team in hitting with a .367 overall batting average, going 72-for-196, while recording 15 doubles, three home runs and 96 RBI. In conference action, LeVier continued to lead the team's offense, as he hit .402 with 33 hits, eight doubles, two home runs and 16 RBI.
Pazos, a 6-3 junior left-handed pitcher from Gilbert, Ariz., had his best season in a Torero uniform. Mainly used on the back end of the pitching staff, Pazos has posted a 5-1 overall record, with four saves and bolstered an impressive ERA of 1.53. Pazos pitched a total of 58.2 innings, while striking out 59 batters, and only issuing 18 walks in 28 appearances this season. In WCC action, Pazos posted a 1.42 ERA and had three saves in 25.1 innings of work.
Sewald, a 6-2 senior right-handed pitcher from Las Vegas, Nev., posted an overall record of 8-3, while bolstering an ERA of 2.83. Sewald recorded a team-leading and career-high 75 strikeouts, while only issuing 25 walks and holding opponents to a .221 batting average. In WCC action, Sewald posted a record of 6-2, and had an ERA of 3.51.
Bailey, a 5-10 freshman second baseman from Temecula, Calif., had a great rookie campaign for the Toreros, as he hit .277 with 43 hits, seven doubles, two triples and had 20 RBI. In conference action, Bailey hit .264 with 19 hits, three doubles, one triple and seven RBI.
Haar, a 6-3 senior utility player from San Diego, picked up his third All-WCC accolade of his career. Haar hit .292 with 57 hits, 17 doubles, one triple, two home runs and 33 RBI. In WCC play, Haar hit .268 with 22 hits, five doubles, one triple, one home run and 14 RBI.
Haupt, a 6-5 junior catcher from San Diego, had a great season in his first year with the Toreros. Overall, he hit .287 with 50 hits, seven doubles, four triples, five home runs and 31 RBI. In conference action, Haupt hit .274 with 20 hits, three doubles, two triples, one home run and seven RBI.
Lechich, a 6-4 sophomore center fielder from Stockton, Calif., had a huge impact in his first season in a USD uniform. Overall, he hit .313 with 68 hits, 10 doubles, two triples, one home run and 33 RBI. In WCC play, Lechich hit .283 with 26 hits, three doubles, and 15 RBI.
Robinson, a 6-1 junior outfielder from Peoria, Ariz., had a great first season with the Toreros. Overall, Robinson hit .307 with 35 hits, four doubles, one home run and 16 RBI. In WCC play, Robinson was still really productive, as he hit .350 with 21 hits, three doubles, one home run and eight RBI.
Wagner, a 6-4 sophomore right-handed pitcher from Las Vegas, Nev., had a great season on the mound for the Toreros, as he recorded a 5-1 record, with a 2.50 ERA and he set both the USD and WCC single-season saves record with 19. In 54.0 innings of work, Wagner has struck out 48 batters, while only issuing 17 walks, and opponents are only hitting .246 off of him. In conference action, Wagner was 2-0 with a 5.03 ERA, and five saves.
Joe, a 6-0 freshman infielder from Poway, Calif., also had a productive rookie campaign, as he hit .269 with 32 hits, five doubles, three home runs and 15 RBI. In WCC action, he hit .300 with 18 hits, three doubles, one home run and five RBI.
The Toreros will return to action on Friday at 3 p.m., as they open play in the Los Angeles regional against the University of New Mexico.
