LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The University of San Diego baseball team saw its season come to an end with an 8-2 loss to Creighton in an elimination game at the UCLA Regional Saturday afternoon at Jackie Robinson Stadium.
With the loss, the Toreros end the season with the third best record in program history at 40-17. With the win, the Blue Jays improve to 27-29 overall, and they will advance on to play the loser of the New Mexico and UCLA on Sunday at 3 p.m.
The Blue Jays got on the scoreboard first, as they managed to score a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Creighton runs came on RBI singles by Chance Ross and Mike Gerber to give CU a 2-0 lead.
After the Blue Jays scored another run in the bottom of the second, USD managed to score one run on one hit in the top of the fourth inning. Kris Bryant led off the inning with a stand-up triple to right center. Connor Joe then drove in Bryant with a RBI groundout to the shortstop to move the score to 3-1.
CU then went on to score three runs in the fourth, and two in the fifth to cap their scoring for the day.
USD then capped the scoring for the day in the top of the ninth on a Haar RBI single, which scored Victor Rasor-Thompson, to put the game at its final of 8-2.
Offensively for the Toreros, Bryant led the way, as he went 1-for-3 with a triple and one run scored. Bryan Haar also had a good day, as he went 2-for-2 with one RBI.
Paul Sewald (8-3) was saddled with the loss on the mound for the Toreros, as he allowed three runs on six hits in 1.2 innings of work. Creighton's Shane Liska (3-4) picked up the win for the Blue Jays as he allowed one run on three hits in 5.0 innings of work.
