SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego swim and dive team was in action against UCLA on Saturday afternoon at the USD Sports Center Pool. The Bruins claimed a 184-101 victory, but the Toreros registered a number of strong performances throughout the day. This was both teams' first official meet of the season.

Highlighting the day for the Toreros was junior Keenan Lineback winning the 400 IM with a time of 4:24.29, coming in right in front of UCLA's Arlyn Upshaw (4:24.76). Lineback was the 2012-13 MPSF Champion in the 400 IM. Lineback also tallied a top-3 finish in the 1000 freestyle, where she came in third with a swim of 10:15.63, and the 200 butterfly, with a third-place finish (2:04.07).

Freshman Kelsey Leonard had a strong day against the Bruins as well, finishing in second place in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:53.32 and taking third in the 100 butterfly (57.49).

Sophomore Jackie Taylor made her presence known by claiming three top-3 finishes on the day; the 200 free (1:54.47) and the 50 free (24.87), where she finished in third place in each of those events. Taylor also swam a career-best in the 100 free (53.06), while finishing in third place as well.

Freshman Danielle Deiparine turned in a solid third-place swim in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.38), while sophomore Lexie Franz tied for third place in the 200 backstroke (2:09.89) with UCLA's Hayden Walker.

In relay action, USD's A relay (Beall, Deiparine, Leonard, Franz) claimed third place in the 200 medley relay with a swim of 1:48.93, while the Toreros' A relay (Taylor, Leonard, Walter, Noonan) was just barely edged in an exciting finish to the 400 free relay, and finished in second place (3:32.89) right behind UCLA's winning relay (3:32.64).

Both of USD's divers were also in action, as Mathilda Danckler scored a 248.77 and a 247.50 in each round of one-meter diving, while Morgan White registered final scores of 190.27 and 196.87.

USD returns to the pool when they host UC Davis and Oregon State for a double dual on Nov. 2 at noon from the USD Sports Center Pool.
