(Chula Vista, Calif.) - The USD Toreros shot the third best final team score today at the 2013 Lamkin Grips San Diego Classic to place 5th overall in the 14 team event being played at historic San Diego Country Club. The Toreros shot a final day team score of 287 to finish at 878 (+14). San Diego State, who co-hosted the event with USD, won the team title with a three-round score of 864 (even par). The Aztecs edged out TCU (867) and Arizona State (867). ASU's Jon Rahm won medalist honors with his 7-under par 209 (72-70-67). He beat out USD's Grant Forrest who finished just two strokes back at 5-under par 211 (70-68-73). USD's Linus Vaisanen, playing as an individual, placed third overall at 4-under par 212 (73-71-68), sharing the third spot with two others.
For USD team scoring, Forrest was followed by Taylor Schmidt (T25 at 222; 78-76-68), Mathias Dahl (T39 at 225; 78-74-73), Alexis Gemme-Piacente (T39 at 225; 77-75-73) and Alex Chiarella (T65 at 232; 73-80-79). Other Toreros playing as individuals included Joe Carlson (T62 at 231; 76-74-81), Skyler Finnell (T71 at 234; 80-76-78), Leon Knoll (81st at 244; 78-78-88) and Mike Bosco (82nd at 250; 81-81-88).
USD returns to competition March 16-17 in the National Invitational Tournament at Tucson National Golf Club in Tucson, Arizona.
