SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The USD women's basketball (4-1) fell to Fresno State 93-88 Friday evening, taking their first loss of the 2014 season. The Toreros held an eight point lead midway through the second half, but the Bulldogs responded with a 26-8 run to go up ten with just under four minutes remaining.

The Toreros had four players score in double figures, led by Sophia Ederaine's 24 points on 9-13 shooting. Ederaine also collected 13 rebounds to record her fourth straight double-double. Malina Hood had 19 points, Maya Hood had 13, and Katherine Hamilton had 12. Brooke Jelniker stuffed the stat sheet with six points, eight rebounds, five assists and two blocks.

Both teams were efficient from the floor and the score remained close for the entire first half. After USD jumped out to a 13-7 lead, the Bulldogs took their first lead with 11 minutes remaining in the first half, and at one point led by as many as seven. The Toreros closed out the first half on a 5-0 run and went to the locker room down 41-39 at halftime.

Midway through the second half, the Toreros went on a 12-0 run to open up a 61-53 lead with 11:21 remaining. However the Bulldogs were able to put together a rally, fueled by point guard Raven Fox who scored 20 of her game-high 31 points in the second half. Alex Furr also had an effective second frame, scoring 13 of her 16 points in the second half.

Fresno State shot 58 percent from the field, and went 15-21 in the second half, while USD shot 47 percent for the game. However, the Toreros outrebounded the Bulldogs 34-29, collecting 15 offensive rebounds to Fresno State's six.

The Toreros return to action on Monday when they host Dartmouth on Monday at 6:00 p.m.
