Final Stats SPOKANE, Wash. - The University of San Diego women's basketball team saw its season-high six-game wining streak come to an end Monday evening with a 67-49 loss to defending West Coast Conference champion Gonzaga University at the McCarthey Athletic Center.
With the loss, the Toreros fall to 11-2 overall, move to 1-1 in the WCC and saw its six-game winning streak come to en end. With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 9-4 overall, move to 2-0 in the WCC and have now beaten USD 15 consecutive times, dating back to the 2008 WCC Tournament championship game.
Senior forward Sophia Ederaine led the Torero offense with a double-double, as she scored 13 points on 6-of-15 shooting from the field, and she pulled down 11 rebounds, while also recording six blocks. The next Torero in double figures was senior forward Katelyn McDaniel, who scored 11 on 5-of-6 shooting from the field, and Katherine Hamilton added in 10 points. Maya Hood led all players with six steals.
The Zags held USD to 29 percent shooting from the field. The Toreros made just five of their 27 attempts (18.5 percent) in the first half. Gonzaga also limited San Diego to 1-of-12 from behind-the-arc. Both teams had 43 rebounds, and both committed 21 turnovers. GU had a 28-20 advantage in points off of turnovers. Gonzaga had 16 assists on its 25 made shots from the field.
For the Bulldogs, Ellie Tinkle led the way with 26 points, and pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds to post a double-double. Emma Wolfram added 10 points, while Shelby Cheslek was two points shy of her third double-double of the season. Cheslek matched her career-high with 14 rebounds.
San Diego will return to action on New Years Day, as they welcome the University of San Francisco to town for a 6 p.m. game inside the friendly confines of the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
