With the loss, the Toreros finish the season at 24-9 overall. With the win, the Huskies improve to 20-13 overall and will advance on to the Elite Eight round of the WNIT and face the winner of the UTEP and Colorado game at a site to be determined on a day to be determined.
Amy Kame led the team with 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field, while pulling down seven rebounds. Sophia Ederaine posted a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Felicia Wijenberg also had a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds. As a team, USD shot 35.6% from the field, while out rebounding the Huskies 48-40.
In the first half, the Toreros grabbed the first two baskets on jumpers by Amy Kame and Katherine Hamilton, but the Huskies then responded with a 10-0 run over the next four minutes to take a 10-4 lead, forcing the Toreros into a timeout with 15:19 to go. A Hamilton lay-up then sparked an 8-2 run over the next three minutes to tie things up at 12-all with 12:28 to go.
The two teams then began to trade baskets, and with USD trailing 18-16, a Mercedes Wetmore 3-pointer sparked a 7-0 Washington run to give the home team their biggest lead of the game at 25-16.
San Diego then responded with a 6-0 run of their own to pull back to within three at 25-22 with 5:16 to go. UW then regained a 7-point lead, before the Toreros closed the frame on a 6-1 run to go into the break down 30-28.
In the second half, USD came out on first and went on an 8-4 run over the first 4:11 of the frame to take their first lead since leading 4-0. The two teams then continued to trade basket-for-basket, with USD maintaining the lead for a majority of the half. USD would build up its lead to as many as three on a few occasions. Then the Huskies tied the game at 49-all with 6:31 to go.
USD then went ice cold, and did not score a single point for a five-minute stretch, while the Huskies took advantage of that went onto build a 6-point lead at 55-49 with 1:51 to go. A Kame free throw then ended that scoreless stretch, but it wasn't enough to get USD going, as the Huskies would hold on to win the game by a final of 62-55.
