STOCKTON, Calif. - The University of San Diego baseball team dropped the first game of a double-header to the University of the Pacific Saturday afternoon, 4-3, at Klein Family Field.
With the loss, the Toreros fall to 27-15 overall, and 11-8 in the WCC. With the win, the Tigers pull even with USD in the WCC standings at 11-8, while moving to 22-20 overall.
The Tigers got on the scoreboard first, as they pushed across one run in the bottom of the first inning. The UoP run came on back-to-back doubles by Tyler Sullivan and Taylor Murphy, to give the home team a 1-0 lead.
The Toreros then took the lead in the top of the fourth inning, as they pushed across two runs on three hits. Connor Joe got things started with a lead-off single. Two batters later, Louie Lechich laced a double down the left field line, scoring Joe from first. Josh Goossen-Brown then singled in Lechich to give USD a 2-1 lead.
Pacific then took back the lead with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning. The Tigers runs came on a USD fielding error and an Erik Lockwood RBI single to move the score to 3-2.
Pacific then scored one run in the bottom of the sixth and USD scored one run in the ninth, to put the game at its final of 4-3.
Offensively for the Toreros, Goossen-Brown led the way, as he went 3-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI. Lechich also had a good day, as he went 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI.
Lechich (7-2) was saddled with the loss on the mound for the Toreros, as he allowed four runs, three earned, on seven hits in 5.1 innings of work. Mike Hager (3-4) picked up the win on the mound for the Tigers, as he allowed two runs on five hits in 7.0 innings of work.
