SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The USD Softball team (16-18, 1-2) lost two one run games to BYU (16-20, 2-1) Saturday afternoon at the USD Softball Complex. In game one the Toreros late rally fell short as they fell 2-1, and in game two they couldn't hold off the Cougars late surge and lost 4-3 after allowing three runs in the seventh inning. The Toreros will resume WCC play next Saturday when they host Saint Mary's for a doubleheader.
Game one featured a pitcher's duel between Jenny Lahitte and BYU's Tori Almond. The Toreros loaded the bases with one out in the second inning, but Almond was able to get out of a jam by retiring the next two Torero batters.
The game was scoreless until the fifth inning when the Cougars took a 1-0 lead on a RBI double by Sydney Broderick. BYU added a crucial insurance run in the seventh inning on a bases loaded sacrifice fly to rightfield.
The Toreros didn't go down without a fight, putting runners on second and third with just one out. Jenny Lahitte hit a pinch hit RBI sacrifice fly down leftfield line to bring home Olivia Sandusky. The Toreros rally ended there as Kylie Ordos struck out to end the game with the tying run on second base.

In game two, the Cougars quickly jumped on Cassidy Coleman with three first inning hits, less than 24 hours after Coleman no-hit them. After retiring the first batter, Coleman allowed three straight singles to give BYU an early 1-0 lead.
The Toreros responded with two runs in the bottom of the first. Mary Grabowski hit a high fly to leftfield which the Cougars' lost in the sun, allowing Dana Prelsnik to score all the way from first. The next batter, Olivia Sandusky, walked to stretch her on-base streak to 21 games. Caitlin Rooney then reached on an error, which allowed Grabowski to come home, giving USD a 2-1 lead.
The Toreros added one more in the following inning when Tatum Schultz knocked home pinch runner Kylie McNutt with a RBI single to left field.
The score would remain 3-1 until the top of the seventh inning. After a leadoff walk, Ashlee Robinson doubled to left field. Sydney Broderick then smacked a three run home run over the right field wall to give BYU a 4-3 lead and the win.
