USD COACHING TREE GROWS

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The coaching tree under University of San Diego head baseball coach Rich Hill continues to grow, as former Torero assistant coach Brian Green has been named the new head coach at New Mexico State University.

Green joins Eric Valenzuela, who is now the head coach at Saint Mary's College, and Jay Johnson, who is the head coach at Nevada, as former Torero assistant coaches to become head coaches.

Green was on the USD coaching staff in 2002, and he helped lead USD to its first ever West Coast Conference championship, as well as their first NCAA Regional. In 2002, USD posted an overall record of 36-20, and they held a WCC record of 18-12, best in the West division of the league. They then went on to take two of three against Pepperdine in the WCC Championship series to earn the automatic bid into the postseason, and take home their first ever conference crown.

Green also had coaching stops at Hawai'i, Oregon State, Chapman University, Cal Poly-Pomona, Riverside Community College and New Mexico State. After leading USD, he went o UCLA, and was there for four years, before spending the past six seasons at Kentucky.
