IRVINE, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's soccer team (1-4-2) dropped a 2-1 decision to UC Irvine (3-4-0) Friday evening in a non-conference match at the Anteater Recreation Field.
The Anteaters managed to get on the scoreboard first, as in the 11th minute of play, Kiana Palacios corralled a pass from Clarissa Robles, and hit the ball into the back of the net to give the Anteaters a 1-0 lead.
San Diego then hit the equalizer just 11 minutes later, as at the 21:53 mark, Mia Costa was able to re direct a corner kick from Mariah Butera, with a header into the back of the net to move the score to 1-1.
The Anteaters then regained the lead in the 63rd minute of action, as Laura McGrail redirected a pass from Robles, to put the match at its final of 2-1.
USD and UCI were both even with nine shots apiece, while USD held a 10-2 advantage in corner kicks.
McKenna Tollack was saddled with the loss in goal for the Toreros, as she allowed two goals and recorded four saves. Her counterpart, Jenn Randazzo, was credited with the win for the Anteaters, as she allowed one goal and recorded one save.
The Toreros will return to action on Friday, as they host cross town rival San Diego State in a 7:30 p.m. match inside the friendly confines of Torero Stadium.
