Northridge, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision on the road at Cal State Northridge this evening before 637 fans at Matador Soccer Field. With the loss the Toreros fall to 1-3-2 on the season while the CSUN Matadors improve to 2-2-1.
USD managed 10 shots in the match but Matador goalie Cynthia Tafoya recorded two saves on shots on goal by Mariah Butera and Jacqueline Altschuld. McKenna Tollack was saddled with the loss in goal for the Toreros. She recorded 8 saves, but allowed a goal in each half to the host Matadors.
CSUN received a first half goal from Leandra Walker in the 39th minute off a free kick that was driven to the far post past Tollack. Northridge received an insurance goal in the 68th minute when Cynthia Sanchez scored off an assist from Kourtney Kutscher.
For the match USD totaled 10 shots with seven coming in the second half. Northridge totaled 22 shots with 13 coming in the opening half. USD held the edge in corner kicks 6-4, and in fouls 10-9.
USD next plays at UC Irvine on September 12th (7pm) before returning home to face crosstown rival San Diego State on September 19th at 7:30 pm.
