SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- The USD women's basketball team remained undefeated with a 60-53 win at San Diego State Thursday evening. USD trailed at halftime for the first time all the season, but the Toreros' defense put the clamps down in the second half to earn their third consecutive win over their cross-town rival. Senior Malina Hood led all scorers with 21 points.

After an evenly matched first quarter, the Toreros got off to a slow start in the second quarter. The Toreros committed four turnovers and converted just one field goal in the first six minutes of the second quarter, allowing the Aztecs to take a 22-16 lead.

Fueled by stingy defense and a pair of pull up jumpers by Aubrey Ward-El, the Toreros put together a 9-0 run, giving USD a 25-22 lead. After a mini SDSU run, the Aztecs held a 27-25 lead at the half despite the Toreros forcing them in to nine first half turnovers.

The Toreros tough defense carried over into the third quarter, as they forced the Aztecs to commit seven turnovers in the quarter's first seven minutes. This led to a 14-2 run by USD with Malina Hood scoring seven of those points.

The Toreros led by as much as 11, but the Aztecs went on a 10-2 run early in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 44-44 with just under five minutes remaining.

The Toreros responded with a pair of three-pointers from Cori Woodward and Malina Hood to open up a six point lead and never trailed again, hitting enough free throws down the stretch to seal the victory. Cori Woodward and Sydney Williams each chipped in nine points, and Woodward had a team-high five assists.

The Toreros look to stay perfect on Sunday when they host Washington State of the Pac-12 at 1:00 p.m. inside the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
