SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Behind a near triple-double from senior forward
Sophia Ederaine, and three other Toreros scoring in double figures, the University of San Diego women's basketball team cruised to a 68-49 win over Loyola Marymount University Thursday evening in a West Coast Conference game at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
With the win, the Toreros improve to 18-4 overall, move to 9-3 in the WCC and have now won three consecutive games, and four of their last five. With the loss, the Lions fall to 3-20 overall, and move to 1-11 in the WCC.
Ederaine almost recoded her second triple double of the season, as she recorded 12 points, while pulling down 10 rebounds, and she fell just one block shy of a triple double with nine. Katelyn McDaniel also had a monster night, as she scored 17 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field, and she pulled down 11 rebounds. Malina Hood was hot from beyond the arc tonight, as she recorded a game-high 18 points on 5-of-11 shooting, including hitting 4-of-7 three pointers. Maya Hood was the final Torero in double figures, as she had 10 points on 5-of-12 shooting from the field. As a team, USD shot 38.2% from the field, and out rebounded the Lions 49-42.
For LMU, Olivia Lucero and Makenzie Cast each scored a team-best 11 points, while Leslie Lopez-Wood was the third LMU player in double figures with 10. As a team, the Lions shot a dismal 24.6% from the field on 14-of-57 shooting.
The Toreros will return to action on Saturday, as they host Pepperdine University in a 2 p.m. WC game inside the friendly confines of the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
