Feb. 7, 2015

Final Stats

MALIBU, Calif. - The USD men's basketball team bounced back from a tough loss at LMU on Thursday with a dominating 72-50 win at Pepperdine Saturday evening at the Firehouse Fieldhouse for their fourth win in the past five games.

It was a historic night for the Toreros as both Christopher Anderson and Jito Kok entered their names into the USD record books. With three steals, Anderson now has the most career steals in program history with 243, passing Brandon Johnson (240). Kok had two blocks to break his own single-season record with 65. He now has 183 in his career, tying Scott Thompson (1983-87) for the most all-time.

The Toreros had four players in double figures with Johnny Dee leading the way with a game-high 15 points. Chris Sarbaugh had 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting and Thomas Jacobs chipped in ten. Anderson, who missed the last game with an ankle injury, bounced back with 11 points, six assists, five rebounds, and three steals.

The Torero defense held the Waves to 50 points, which tied their season low, by forcing 19 turnovers and outrebounding the Waves 38-29.

Dee hit a three with 12:50 left in the first half to give USD a 12-9 lead and they never trailed after that point, taking a 33-24 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Pepperdine cut the deficit to seven (40-33) with 17:04 remaining, but the Toreros responded with an 18-4 run to put the game out of the reach. It was USD's largest margin of victory since December 13 when they beat New Orleans 85-60.

USD shot 48 percent from the field, 42 percent from three (8-19), and had ten players score.

The Toreros will return to the JCP next week when they host Pacific (Feb. 12) and Saint Mary's (Feb. 14).
