IRVINE, Calif. â€" The 21st-ranked University of San Diego women's volleyball team was upset by UC Irvine Saturday afternoon in a non-conference match at the Bren Events Center.
With the 21-25, 25-16, 19-25, 26-28 loss, the Toreros fall to 6-5 overall and have now lost four of their last five matches. With the win, UCI improves to 6-6 on the season.
Lisa Kramer led the USD offense with 17 kills, on 35 swings, while committing five errors to hit for a .343 clip, and she had four blocks. The only other Torero in double digit kills was Canace Finley with 10. Kristen Gengenbacher recorded a team-best 34 assists, while adding in five digs, and Hunter Jennings paced the USD defense with 22 digs.
As a team, USD hit for a .211 clip, while UCI hit for a .266 clip, and the Anteaters out blocked USD 17.5-7.0.
For the Anteaters, both Harlee Kekauoha and Victoria Dennis led the way with 13 kills each, while Ella Rosenfeld added in 10 more kills. Shelly Anderson recorded a match-high 48 assists, and Kekuoha led the blocking effort with seven, while Luna Tsujimoto recorded a team-leading 16 digs.
The Toreros will return to action on Thursday, as they head up the Bay Area to open West Coast Conference play with a 6 p.m. match at Santa Clara University.
