SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- Behind a career-high 16 kills from junior middle blocker Lisa Kramer, the 23rd-ranked University of San Diego women's volleyball team picked up a 3-1 non-conference win over the Beavers of Oregon State University Friday evening in the home opener for the Toreros.
With the 25-20, 25-22, 22-25, 25-13 win, San Diego improves to 3-1 overall, while the Beavers fall to 1-3 on the young season.
Kramer recorded her team-best 16 kills on 32 swings, while only committing two attack errors, to hit for a .438 clip, and she recorded five blocks. Canace Finley was the second Torero in double figure kills, as she had 13, while also recording three blocks. Freshman outside hitter Lauren Fuller was the final Torero in double figure kills, as she had 10, to go along with 10 digs, posting her first career double-double. Merve Tanyel had a near double-double, as she had nine kills and 13 digs, while Kristen Gengenbaucher recorded 24 assists and 11 digs to post a double-double. Hunter Jennings paced the USD defense with a season-high 22 digs, and Lauren Schad had a team-best seven blocks.
As a team, USD hit for a season-high .245 clip, while holding Oregon State to a .164 clip. OSU out blocked the Toreros 12.5-11.
For the Beavers, Mary-Kate Marshall led the way offensively with a match-high 19 kills, while recording seven digs and two blocks. Katelyn Driscoll was the only other OSU player in double figure kills, as she had 10. Darby Reeder led the defense for the Beavers with 17 digs, while Dana Backlund recorded a double-double with 33 assists and 12 digs.
San Diego will return to action on Saturday, as they host Dartmouth College at 3 p.m. and Texas Christian at 7:30 p.m.
