SAN DIEGO, Calif. â€" The USD Swim and dive team was edged at San Diego State 145-131 Friday afternoon at the Aztec Aquaplex. In their final away meet of the season, multiple Toreros swam season and career best times. USD closes out their regular season next Saturday at home against UC San Diego.
After taking fourth place in the 200 medley relay (1:49.13) to began the meet, USD grabbed third and fourth place in the 1000 free. Liza Kuznetsova swam a career best time of 10:32.52 for third and Gwen Walter took fourth (10:45.34).
The Toreros followed that up with a strong showing in the 200 free. Senior captain Jackie Taylor swam a season-best time of 1:53.02 to earn first place and freshman Mackenna Briggs was right behind her to take second with a career best time of 1:54.05.
Briggs and Taylor would also take first and second in the 100 free. Briggs once again swam a career best time, finishing in 53.18 for first while Taylor clocked in shortly after at 53.21. Stephanie Jones came in third (55.85).
The other top Torero finishers were: Missy Beall (100 back; 1:05.25), Sammi Cohn (100 breast; 1:08.84), MK Clancy (200 fly; 2:10.71 & 200 back; 2:11.21), Jackie Taylor (50 free; 24.88), Danielle Deiparine (200 breast; 2:29.58 & 200 IM; 2:12.08), Kuznetsova (500 free; 5:13.93), Briggs (100 fly; 58.11), and Lexi Held (1M diving; 176.10 & 3M diving; 170.18).
