SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The fifth-ranked University of San Diego women's volleyball team battled to a 3-2 win over the University of the Pacific Thursday evening in a West Coast Conference match inside the friendly confines of the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
With the 25-21, 18-25, 25-19, 22-25, 15-12 win, the Toreros improve to 14-2 overall, remain perfect in the WCC at 5-0, and have now won 13 consecutive matches. With the loss, the Tigers fall to 10-8 overall, and fall to 4-2 in the WCC.
Both Lisa Kramer and Lauren Fuller led the USD offense with 14 kills each, while Fuller recorded six digs and hit for a .310 clip, and Kramer hit .258 with a pair of blocks. Lauren Schad was the only other Torero in double-digit kills, as she had 11, while hitting .333 and she recorded three blocks, one solo. Kristen Gengenbacher recorded 40 assists, and nearly had a double-double with seven digs. Hunter Jennings added in eight digs, and Lizzy Tardieu had seven digs.
As a team, USD hit for a .235 clip, while Pacific hit .281. The Tigers out dug the Toreros 38-35, and Pacific recorded 58 kills to USD's 56 kills.
For the Tigers, Ashlyn Fleming led the offense with a match-best 15 kills, while Lexi Elman added in 12 kills and Emily Baptista added in 10 more kills. Jessica Diederich recorded 32 assists, while Elman added in 14 digs to post a double-double.
San Diego will return to action on Saturday, as they welcome Saint Mary's College to town for a 12 p.m. WCC match inside the friendly confines of Torero Stadium.
