Toreros competing at Fighting Irish Golf Classic

South Bend, IN â€" The USD golf team is competing in the Fighting Irish Golf Classic in South Bend, Indiana. After day one on the Warren Golf Course (par 70, yardage 6713), the Toreros are tied for 7th (15 teams with Santa Clara and Butler. USD shot a team score of 291 (+11) with Daniel Lopez leading the way with an even-par 70 (tied for 10th individually). Eastern Michigan (280) holds a two shot lead over Texas El Paso and Illinois State.

Notre Dame's Blake Barens fired an opening round 66 (-4) and leads Joey Kremer of Eastern Michigan by one stroke. Rounding out USD scoring behind Lopez were Alvaro Escalada (T15 at 71), Nick Baines (T56 at 75), George Gardner (T56 at 75) and Dalton Hankamer (T79 at 78).

Round two begins at 5:30 a.m. (Pacific) Monday morning for the Toreros.
