NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Behind a 22-point performance from senior forward Maya Hood and a 17-point outing from freshman forward Patricia Brossmann, the University of San Diego women's basketball team picked up a thrilling 76-67 win over CSUN Monday evening in a non-conference game at the Matadome.
With the win, the Toreros move to 2-0 on the season, while the Matadors drop to 1-1 on the young season.
Hood scored her game-high 22 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the field, while just missing a double-double with nine rebounds. Brossmann scored a career-high 17 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field, while also pulling down nine rebounds, and she dished out three assists and had three steals. Both Cori Woodward and Katherine Hamilton had four assists, and Aubrey Ward-El added in nine more points coming off the bench.
As a team, USD shot 39.2% from the field, while the home team shot 42.2%. USD was out rebounded 44-43, and San Diego only committed eight turnovers, while the Matadors committed 21.
For the Matadors, Chanon Fluker led the way with 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field, and she pulled down 10 rebounds to post a double-double. Tessa Boagni also had a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Lizzy Tonks was the final player in double figures with 12 points.
San Diego will return to action on Thursday, as they host cross-town rival San Diego State, in a non-conference game inside the friendly confines of the Jenny Craig Pavilion. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
