STOCKTON, Calif. - Behind 13 kills from junior middle hitter Kaity Edwards, the seventh-ranked University of San Diego women's volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 win over the University of the Pacific Tigers Saturday afternoon in a West Coast Conference match at the Spanos Center.
With the win, the Toreros improve to 21-3 overall, move to 12-1 in the WCC and have now won 19 of their last 20 matches. With the loss, the Tigers fall to 14-12 overall and 8-6 in the WCC.
Edwards led all players with her 13 kills on 15 swings, while only committing two errors to hit for a .733 clip, which ties her for seventh best single match hitting percentage in program history. Both Lisa Kramer and Lauren Schad chipped in with nine kills, while Thana Fayad had 16 digs, and Hunter Jennings chipped in with 11 digs. Kristen Gengenbacher had 25 assists.
As a team, USD hit for a .291 clip while the Tigers hit .188. USD recorded 48 kills, to UOP's 35, and San Diego out blocked Pacific, 6.0-5.0.
For the Tigers, Lexi Elman led the way, as she had 11 kills, while hitting .116, and she recorded 14 digs, to post a double-double. Katrin Gotterba also had a good day, as she recorded 13 digs.
San Diego will return to action on Thursday, as they welcome Portland to town for a 7 p.m. WCC match inside the friendly confines of the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
