SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- Behind a double-double of 28 points and 15 rebounds from senior guard Maya Hood, the University of San Diego women's basketball team cruised its way to a 84-69 win over Point Loma Tuesday evening in a exhibition game at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
Hood led all scorers with her 28 points on 10-of-14 shooting from the field, while also pulling down a game-high 15 rebounds. Aubrey Ward-El was the only other Torero to score in double figures, as she had 11 on 5-of-13 shooting from the field. Katherine Hamilton scored nine points, and both Sydney Williams and Cori Woodward added in eight points apiece.
As a team, USD shot 47.1% from the field, while the Sea Lions shot 51.0%. USD out rebounded PLNU 45-23, but the Toreros did commit 11 turnovers, while Point Loma had 12.
For the Sea Lions, Madison West led the way with 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field, while Kassidy Gengenbacher added in 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field. The team's leading rebounder was Anna Vietty with five.
The Toreros will return to action on Friday, as they open the 2016-17 season against Cal State Fullerton inside the friendly confines of the Jenny Craig Pavilion. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
