SAN DIEGO, Calif. - An all-around team effort helped propel the University of San Diego women's basketball team to a thrilling 70-54 win over the University of Nevada, Saturday afternoon in a non-conference game at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
With the win, the Toreros snap a two-game skid, improve to 5-3 on the season, and remain undefeated at home with a 4-0 record. With the loss, the Wolfpack fall under .500 for the first time this season at 4-5.
Maya Hood led the Torero offensive output, scoring 15 points, 13 of them in the second half, on 7-of-19 shooting while also pulling down a game-high eight rebounds. Cori Woodward was the only other Torero in double figures, as she had 11 points, on 4-of-10 shooting from the field. Aubrey Ward-El also had a great game, as she scored eight points, and dished out a game-high five assists. Both Sydney Williams and Katherine Hamilton added in nine points apiece.
As a team, USD shot 40.9% from the field, while Nevada shot 40.7%. The Toreros out rebounded the Wolfpack, 40-36, and USD forced the visitors into 19 turnovers, while only committing 12 themselves.
For Nevada, Riana Everidge led the way with a game-high 18 points on 8-of-18 shooting from the field. The only other player in double figures was Stephanie Schmid, who had 10 points. Teige Zeller led the team with seven rebounds, and Schmid led the team with a pair of assists.
San Diego will return to action on Monday, as they welcome Seattle University to town for a 6 p.m. non-conference game at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
