PROVO, Utah â€" Four University of San Diego women's basketball players scored in double figures, but it wasn't enough, as BYU pulled away late to claim a 68-60 win Thursday evening in a West Coast Conference game at the Marriott Center.
With the loss, the Toreros fall to 21-6 overall, move to 11-5 in the WCC, have lost three consecutive games for the first time all season, and move into third place in the WCC standings. With the win, the Cougars improve to 23-4 overall, move to 15-1 in the WCC, and have claimed the WCC regular-season championship.
Malina Hood, Maya Hood and Katherine Hamilton all led the Toreros in scoring with 12 points apiece, while Maya Hood just missed a double-double with nine rebounds. Sydney Williams was the final Torero in double figures, as she had 10 points on 4-of-10 shooting from the field.
As a team, USD shot 40% from the field, while BYU shot 51% from the floor. USD out rebounded the Cougars 33-30, and USD committed 16 turnovers to BYU's 12.
For the Cougars, Lexi Rydalch led the way with a game-high 33 points 12-of-21 shooting from the field. Kalani Purcell was the only other Cougar to score in double figures, as she had 13 points, and she pulled down 12 rebounds to post a double-double.
The Toreros will return to action on Thursday, as they head to defending WCC champion Gonzaga University for a 6 p.m. WCC game at the McArthey Athletic Center.
