SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Toreros played UCSD at home on Saturday to open their 2017 spring season with a 1-0 record.

The Toreros beat UCSD 6-1, winning the point in doubles play and five of the singles points.

USD's first doubles team with Colomba DiFilippo and Daniela Morales won first against UCSD's Britta Mosser and Shannon Theisen 6-3. Next to finish was the No. 2 doubles team Nicole Anderson and Maria-Paula Torres, who won against Ashley Chao and Rebecca Chou 6-4. Last to finish was USD's No. 3 doubles team Gemma Garcia and Katharina Kukaras, who were defeated by Alexandra Weil and Madison Hale (7-5).

The Toreros won five of the six singles matches they competed in. The first to finish was Colomba DiFilippo, who beat UCSD's Valeria Corral at the No. 6 spot. Next to finish was Nicole Anderson, who defeated Ashley Choa at the No. 2 position (6-3, 6-1). Daniela Morales, USD's No. 3 singles player, finished next, defeating Rebecca Chou 6-3, 6-1.

The newest Torero, Katherina Kukaras, was the next to finish, playing in the No. 5 singles spot and defeating Alexandra Weil 6-2, 7-5. Gemma Garcia, who is USD's No. 1 singles player, beat Mosser 7-5, 6-3 next, followed by Maria-Paula Torres, who was the only singles loss of the day. Torres lost to Jasmine Hosseini 6-2, 4-6, 10-8 in the No. 4 spot.
