LOS ANGELES - San Diego claimed first-place finishes in nine of 14 events as the Toreros went 1-1 at a double dual meet against Loyola Marymount and UC Davis on Sunday afternoon.
Mackenna Briggs, Alex Hubel and Dani Taylor won two events apiece, while Anna Luckenbach and Kailyn Evans each registered one first-place result. Briggs, Hubel, Taylor and Sydney Wong teamed up to secure a first-place finish in the 400 yard freestyle relay.
The standout individual performances helped lead USD to a 177.50-84.50 victory against LMU. It was not quite enough to top the Aggies, however, which edged the Toreros, 137-123.
Briggs went 1:55.55 in the 200 free to claim the top spot and was followed by Wong who finished fourth with a time of 1:57.12. Briggs led a Toreros top-three sweep of the 500 free clocking in at 5:04.81, and was followed by Luckenbach (5:04.92) and Sam Terranova (5:11.30).
Hubel dominated the butterfly events, finishing first in the 200 fly (2:06.51) and the 100 fly (56.76).
Taylor went 23.99 in the 50 free to finish first and followed that performance with a 51.69 in the 100 free.
Luckenbach got USD off to a strong start in the individual events with a meet-best 10:28.55 in the 100 free. Terranova finished third in the event with a 10:45.51.
Evans paced the Toreros in the 100 breaststroke, turning in a time of 1:05.99. Lillian Benwell turned in a third-place result in the 200 breast (2:27.90).
USD was excellent in the relay events and opened the meet with a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:47.12. Taylor, Evans, Maeve Murdoch and Hubel teamed up for the second-place result.
The Toreros claimed the first and third positions in the 400 free relay to conclude the competition. Wong, Hubel, Briggs and Taylor turned in a meet-best 3:31.67, while Haitz, Luckenbach, Murdoch and Alyssa Hornbuckle finished third with a 3:39.15.
USD continues its fall season Nov. 17-18 when it competes in the A3 Invitational.
