BERKELEY, Calif. â€" The USD women's basketball team (5-4) lost at No. 25 California 89-64 Thursday evening. Sydney Williams led the team with 18 points and was one of three Toreros who scored in double-digits.
Williams' 18 points (9-for-15 shooting) tied her season-high. Aubrey Ward-El had 14 points and Maya Hood chipped in 12 points. Freshman Myah Pace had a career-high eight assists and Patricia Brossmann had a game-high seven rebounds and seven points.
Cal's offense was tough to slow down all evening. They made 12 of their 16 shots in the first quarter and shot 69 percent from the field for the game. The Toreros kept the lead close throughout the first half, pulling within four points early in the second quarter (27-23). The Golden Bears held a 10 point lead at half (41-31), but then lead by double-digits for the remainder of the game.
Led by Pace's eight dimes, the Toreros had 21 assists on their 26 field goals. USD continued their season-long efficiency from the free-throw line, making 10 of 13 (77 percent).
Cal's Kristine Anigwe led all scorers with 26 points (11-for-14 shooting). Penina Davidson and Asha Thomas also scored in double digits, adding 13 points each.
The Toreros return home on Sunday when they host Minnesota (9-1) for a 12:30 p.m. game inside the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
