Toreros turn on strong final round at Desert Mountain

Scottsdale, AZ - The USD men's golf team turned in a solid final round today to move up two spots and place 10th at the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate (Outlaw Course, Desert Mountain Golf Club). The Toreros totaled a team score of 291 to finish at 897 overall. Michigan won the team event at 851, placing two strokes ahead of Northwestern. Alabama's Lee Hodges carded a final round 69 to win medalist honors at 206 (-10).

USD senior Nick Baines shot a final round 74 to finish at 217 (+1) to finish in a tie for 18th overall. He had moved up the standings following his second round 68 on Saturday afternoon. He was followed by Nathan Zhao (T29 at 220; 71-72-77), Dalton Hankamer (52nd at 228; 78-81-69), Daniel Lopez (T59 at 233; 79-82-72) and George Gardner (64th at 243; 85-82-76). Hankamer's 3-under par 69 today was the team's low round.

Up next for the Toreros is the Lamkin San Diego Classic they co-host with SDSU. The two-day event will be held March 13-14 at the San Diego Country Club in Chula Vista, California.
