Lauren Fuller selected for U.S. Collegiate National Team

May 1, 2017

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- USA Volleyball announced that USD's Lauren Fuller is one of 31 players who will train and compete with the U.S. Collegiate National Team as part of their Minnesota program. Torero assistant coach Marie Zidek was also named one of the assistants for the CNT.

"Lauren Fuller will have a tremendous growing experience this summer playing with some of the best volleyball players in the country," Head Coach Jennifer Petrie said. "I expect that the time she competes there this summer will boost her confidence, her level of play and her passion for the game."

Fuller (Clarendon Hills, Ill.), who will be a junior in the fall, averaged 2.22 kills per set last year. She joins Kristen Gengenbacher as Toreros who will be representing the U.S. this summer for a Collegiate National Team. Gengenbacher will be on the European tour July 5-16.

"Marie's one of the top division one assistants in the country," Petrie said." She is a great mentor, role model and is extremely knowledgeable about the sport of volleyball. She has a lot to add to any staff she is on, and they are lucky to have her."

"I am deeply thankful to USA Volleyball for selecting me to work with their program this summer," Zidek said after finding out about her selection. "To put on the red-white-and blue as a coach and represent the USA at any level in this great sport is a tremendous honor and a once in a lifetime experience. It speaks to the confidence the program organizers have in me as a coach and person as well as reflects all of the positive relationships built within the USA Volleyball pipeline throughout the years."

"Thank you to Jen, Brent and everybody here at USD that has supported me in creating this opportunity," Zidek praised. "I am most looking forward to coaching these collegiate national team athletes at a high level and learning under Coach Karch Kiraly's teaching methodologies. I am also looking forward to working with the other talented coaches on staff and bringing back this momentum to our volleyball program this fall."

The CNT-Minneapolis squad, which is part of USA Volleyball's High Performance pipeline and is considered a second tryout for the U.S. Women's National Team, will train from June 22-26 at the University of Minnesota. Afterward, the athletes will be assigned to one of three 12-member teams and compete in a round-robin format at the Minneapolis Convention Center from June 27-30. The matches are being held in conjunction with the USA Volleyball Girls' Junior National Championships under the same roof.
