SAN DIEGO, Calif. â€" The No. 17 Torero Volleyball team (4-1) swept Villanova 3-0 Saturday morning. The Toreros have swept their last four opponents heading into Saturday night's showdown with No. 4 Texas.
Kaity Edwards and Roxie Wiblin each has 12 kills as USD won 25-19, 25-17, 25-17. Wiblin's 12 kills were a career-high as were her three aces. Kristen Gengenbacher had 27 assists and Anna Newsome chipped in 10. Lizzy Tardieu once again led the team with 14 digs.
The Toreros hit .262 and held the Wildcats to a .047 clip. Defensively, USD had 42 digs to Villanova's 30 and out-blocked the Wildcats 6-5.
Villanova was led by Mallory Potts' seven kills. Emma Decker recorded 18 assists and Sarah Allman led the team with seven digs.
The Toreros led for the entirety of the first and third sets, but had a slow start in the second. The Wildcats jumped out to a 4-0 lead, but USD responded with a 6-2 run to tie it at 6-6 and eventually built a 15-9 lead on their way to a 25-17 win.
The Toreros have another match Saturday evening, taking on No. 4 Texas at 7:30 p.m.
