SAN DIEGO - Alex Hubel and Danielle Taylor each won an individual event but it was not enough to take down Fresno State as the Toreros fell, 167-104, Saturday morning at the Sports Complex Pool.
Hubel flew to a first-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly in 56.99 and out-touched the second-place finisher, the Bulldogs Zofie Niemczak (57.01), by two-one hundredths of a second. Hubel added a third-place finish in the 200 fly in 2:07.73.
Taylor paced the field in the 100 freestyle with a time of 52.28. She notched second-place results in the 100 backstroke (59.00) and 50 free (24.53).
Hubel and Taylor were two of nine Toreros who combined for 12 top-three finishes on the day.
Kailyn Evans earned second-place finishes in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.98) and the 200 free (1:58.23).
Mackenna Briggs placed third in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:10.96.
Liza Kuznetsova and Anna Luckenbach registered a third-place finish apiece. Kuznetsova touched in a 10:38.90 in the 1000 free, while Luckenbach finished the 500 free in 5:10.98.
USD ended the meet on a high note, claiming two of the top three spots in the 400 free relay. The team of Briggs, Hubel, Evans and Taylor placed first with a time of 3:32.00. The Toreros team of Maeve Murdoch, Alyssa Hornbuckle, Alex Haitz and Sydney Wong edged out Fresno State's B-squad, touching in at 3:39.46 to finish third.
The Toreros will take a quick trip east next week, when they travel to San Diego State for their final road dual meet of the season.
