LOS ANGELES - Aubrey Ward-El scored a team-high 21 points to lead San Diego to a, 60-54, victory at Loyola Marymount on Saturday afternoon.

With the score knotted at 52-52, Madison Pollock converted a layup with 1:26 to play to give the Toreros (10-7, 3-3 WCC) a lead it would not relinquish. USD closed the game on an 8-2 run to seal the victory.

USD shot well from the field at 48 percent, despite going 0 for 7 from 3-point range. Ward-El paced the team on 8 for 15 shooting from the field in 39 minutes. Maya Hood chipped in 14 points, while Myah Pace added nine and Pollock had eight.

The Toreros out-rebounded the Lions (11-6, 3-3 WCC), 42-32. Pace pulled down 11 boards while Hood grabbed nine. Hood has 867 career rebounds and is one rebound shy of tying Amber Sprague (2004-09) for the most career rebounds in program history.

USD stretched its lead to five twice early in the third quarter but LMU battled back to take a 36-35 lead with 4:14 remaining in the period. The Lions were able to hold onto their lead and took a 43-42 advantage into the final quarter.

The fourth quarter belonged to the Toreros, which outscored LMU, 18-11. A layup by Pollock with 1:26 remaining, followed by a difficult turnaround jumper by Hood with 37.6 seconds on the clock put the game out of reach for the Lions.
