SAN DIEGO –
Milan Moses scored a goal with less than two minutes left in second overtime to secure the win for San Diego, 2-1, over LMU on Saturday night.
Summer Mason dribbled down the field from the centerline and sent a cross to Moses in the box. Then, Moses shot a goal to end the match. The goal is Moses' tenth this season.
With the win the Toreros (5-7-1) move to 1-3 in conference and end their two-game losing-streak in overtime.
Offensive efforts started off slow for both teams, with the match knotted at 0-0 at the end of the first half. LMU (3-9-4, 1-3-1) out shot the Toreros 5-1, but USD held advantages in corner kicks, 5-1.
Toreros scored the first goal of the game in the 52nd minute. Goalkeeper
Amber Michel sent her goal kick to
Summer Mason at the centerline. Mason dribbled down the field and sent a cross to
Katie Lapomarda to finish off.
The Lions tied up the match in the 72nd minute. The ball got loose in the box and Sarina Bolden blasted a shot from the top of the box to the near post, just out of reach for Michel.
The Toreros came close to finishing the match in the 90th minute. Mason set up
Madison Louderback with a one-on-one shot on the LMU goalkeeper, but sent the shot wide, sending teams into overtime.
Michel recorded seven saves during the match to hold LMU to one goal. The backline consisting mainly of-
Kelley Carusa,
Devyn Kelsey,
Mina Ghazizadeh, and
Emma Barrow- did well to keep the Toreros within striking distance the entire match.
Next week the Toreros will travel north to play Saint Mary's on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. (PT) and Pacific on Saturday at 7 p.m.
