San Diego scores three goals to defeat Pacific

Oct. 20, 2018

SAN DIEGO – San Diego scored three goals in the first half to beat Pacific, 3-0, and secure its third WCC conference win in-a-row on Saturday night at Knoles field.

The Toreros (7-7-1, 3-3-0) offense took control in the first half, scoring three goals less than 15 minutes apart.

Milan Moses put USD on the board first in the 15th minute. Sami Fairweather sent a pass through multiple defenders to a free Moses, who dribbled down the right side and shot from five yards out to score.

Four minutes later, Moses scored her second goal of the game. Summer Mason picked up the ball from a missed pass by Pacific (2-14, 0-7) in center field. She sprinted down the left side and passed to Moses for a tap in. With the goal, Moses moves to 4th on the USD All-Time list for scoring 12 goals so far this season.

Mason wrapped up the scoring run for USD. Katie Lapomarda sent a cross to Mason in front of the goal. The Pacific goalkeeper intercepted the cross but dropped the ball in front of Mason to finish. It was Mason's fifth goal of the season.

The Toreros' backline – consisting mainly of Devyn Kelsey, Kelley Carusa, Mina Ghazizadeh, and Julianne De Armas– stopped Pacific from getting any shots on goal in the first half.

The Tigers offense got two shots on goal in the second half but USD goalkeepers, Amber Michel (67:13) and Allie Jara (22:47), each recorded saves to keep Pacific scoreless.

USD held advantages in shots, 16-11, and shots on goal, 5-2, to secure the win.

The Toreros return home for two matches next week. USD will face No. 7 Santa Clara on Thursday at 7 p.m. (PT) and San Francisco on Sunday at 11 a.m. for senior day.
