Milan Moses scored a goal in the 89th minute to tie up the match but Santa Clara responded quickly with a golden goal 11 seconds into overtime to win 2-1 at Torero Stadium Thursday night.
SCU (15-2-1, 6-1) scored both of their goals within seconds of the start of the match and within seconds of the start of overtime.
The Broncos scored on the first drive. SCU's Maria Sanchez sent a cross to DB Pridham to tap in for a goal in the first 26 seconds.
Despite SCU's early goal, USD (7-8-1, 3-4) stayed within striking distance the entire match. The Toreros backline did well stopping crosses and staying aggressive.
At the end of the first half both teams had seven shots, with four on goal.
Moses' tied up the match with one-minute left on the clock. She battled three defenders and took a shot with her right foot to the top right corner of the goal. It was her 13th goal this season, moving her to second place on the USD all-time record list for goals in a single season.
Summer Mason led the team with four shots, three on goal, and Moses was right behind with three shots, two on goal.
Goalkeeper
Amber Michel recorded seven saves against the potent SCU front line to keep the Torero's alive. Michel played aggressive, moving outside of the goalie box on several drives, to stop the Broncos' offense before they could shoot.
SCU scored the golden goal 11 seconds into overtime. The Broncos had possession at the start of overtime and took off running. Kelcie Hedge popped up the ball to Skylar Smith, Michel came out of the goal to stop the ball but Smith shot over her head and into the goal just below the crossbar.
The Toreros face San Francisco on Sunday at 11 a.m. The seniors on the team will be honored for the last home game of the season.
