SAN DIEGO – Four San Diego players registered double-digits in kills to lead San Diego to its sixth straight victory with a, 3-2, win at Portland on Saturday afternoon.

The Toreros (13-9, 10-2 WCC) got off to a strong start but had to weather a Pilots (16-7, 4-7 WCC) storm in the second half of the match to pull out the decision, 25-12, 25-20, 19-25, 20-25, 15-4.

Roxie Wiblin led the Toreros offensively with 13 kills.
Addie Picha and
Megan Jacobsen registered 11 apiece, while
Katie Lukes chipped in 10. The Toreros hit .215 on the match but delivered when it mattered most, hitting .688 in the deciding fifth set.

Anna Newsome and
Laura Madill set up USD's attack with 29 and 20 assists, respectively.

Picha led the defensive effort at the net with four blocks, while Wiblin recorded three.
Kelli Barry notched a season-high 28 digs.

The Toreros got off to a dominant start and hit .389 in the first set and .333 in the second to take a commanding, 2-0, lead in the match.

However, the Toreros went ice cold in the third and fourth sets, hitting -.021 and .089, respectively. Portland took advantage by jumping out to an early, 11-6, lead in the third set. The Toreros eventually closed the gap to 22-18 but the Pilots won three of the next four points to win, 25-19.

The loss snapped a streak of 17 consecutive sets won by the Toreros.

The teams went back-and-forth early in the fourth set. However, with the Toreros leading, 17-15, Portland went on an, 10-3, run to take the set, 25-20.

The Toreros regrouped and took command of the fifth set. USD led, 6-2, early before extending its lead to 9-3. After Portland won the next point, the Toreros rallied for six straight points to win, 15-4, and seal the 3-2 decision.

USD remains on the road next week, traveling to No. 1 BYU on Friday at 6 p.m. PT.
