SAN DIEGO –
Madison Pollock scored a career-high 19 points, but San Diego still fell short to No. 18 California 70-53 on Saturday afternoon in Torero Stadium. It was USD's second top-25 match up this week.
The Toreros (2-3) and the Bears (6-0) finished the second half knotted at 29, but a surge by Cal in the second half pushed the Bears over the top in the final game of the Thanksgiving Tournament.
Two Toreros put up double-digits, led by Pollock with 19 points.
Sydney Hunter scored 13 points and led the team with eight rebounds.
Myah Pace also chipped in with eight assists.
Cal stormed out to an early 7-0 lead at the start, but USD slowly battled its way back into the match finishing the first quarter down by three, 15-12.
The Toreros took their first and only lead of the match in the second quarter and outscored the Bears 17-14.
Sydney Shepard sank a three-pointer with one second left in the first half to tie up the match 29-29.
In the third period, the Bears outscored the Toreros 22-8 and USD struggled to close the gap. In the second half, USD shot 9-for-30 and 0-for-4 behind the arc.
However, the Toreros led the way in rebounds the second half 23-15, with Hunter recording three offensive and two defensive rebounds.
USD is back in action on Wednesday when it hosts cross-town rival San Diego State at 6 p.m. and then Dartmouth on Saturday at 2 p.m.
