SAN DIEGO— Patricia Brossmann recorded her second consecutive double-double as the Toreros took care of CSUSB, 76-58.
San Diego (6-3) had four players reach double-digit scoring and shot 41 percent from the field, leading the Coyotes (2-5) from start to finish, to secure its fourth consecutive win.
Brossmann finished with a team-high 19 points and 10 rebounds, while
Myah Pace,
Leticia Soares and
Sydney Hunter scored 13, 12 and 10 points respectively. Pace was one assist shy of recording a double-double as well, finishing with nine assists, seven rebounds and a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line.
The Toreros came out strong to start the game, jumping out to an 11-0 lead midway through the first period. Brossmann led the charge, scoring 15 of San Diego's 36 points in the first half. USD committed just six turnovers, compared to CSUB's 14 and led by as many as 24 points before heading into the locker room at halftime with a 36-18 lead.
San Bernardino began to heat up in the third quarter, outscoring the Toreros 21-19. The Coyotes went on an 8-1 run to start the second half, but San Diego maintained the lead, shooting 47 percent from the field in the fourth quarter. Pace and Soares were clutch in the second half, shooting a combined 9-of-10 from the free-throw line to secure the win.
San Diego had solid play from its bench as well—which finished with 24 points led by Soares and freshman
Aminata Dosso (5 points). The Toreros outrebounded the Coyotes 46-39 including 17 offensive rebounds and collecting 24 points off of turnovers. USD had 13 steals, led by
Madison Pollock who finished with a team-high of four takeaways.
The Toreros will now head on the road to face UTSA on Saturday at 12 p.m. PT.
